Fascinating world as a backdrop for themes of love, prejudice, and redemption. Gripping, well-paced story. Some minor issues that a bit more editing would have resolved.

The story was original and interesting. The world was fascinating, but the pauses to explain it through narrative were a bit jarring. Great to have a fantasy built on a Latin culture, but the reason they spoke Spanish was unclear. The cliffhanger was unsatisfying.

A Vermilion Curse

A Vermilion Curse by DC Guevara

Plot: Mostly clear
Characters: Some more thought out than others
Storytelling: Balanced

Thought Provoking: Focus on the story solely

Interesting concept incorporating ideas of being different from one's home, family, and institutions and running away from trauma, but the plot was a bit hard to follow at times. The writing could have used a bit more polishing. The ending was particularly confusing, sequel?

The story very creatively portrays min character Kye's difficulties dealing with a series of traumas starting with their experience of feeling shamed by their parents for their identity. As Kye wrestles with their literal demon, we see their emotional struggle and growth

Thoroughly enjoyable, well-placed plot, great characters, and interesting concept. Despite the hanging ending leading to the next book, it still felt like an ending, thanks to resolution of the central problem in this story.

The opening is very strong, and the world the author builds is clear, engaging, and contributes to the story. The characters were all believable. The ending could have been a bit smoother. Despite this, I am excited to read the next book.

Thought Provoking: New ideas came up

The plot was unclear, and the story ended abruptly. More importantly, the theme was unclear. Awkward sentence structure and use of words further obscured the meaning. Intriguing world, but the story could have used editing.

Plot: Mostly clear
Characters: Some more thought out than others
Storytelling: Balanced
Immersion: Satisfying, fulfilling experience

The story has an interesting premise to explore the character development of the main character. At the start, the tone of the book was somewhat confusing, and at times it read more like a script than a novel. The best parts were the revelations of feelings, which seemed genuine.
